Please note that visitors are advised to utilise the parking facilities at Sainsbury's, as parking is limited on-site. Thanks to the cooperation of the supermarket, visitors can park there for up to two and a half hours.

Further Education

Bodmin Jail is a Georgian and Victorian treasure chest. Spanning the 1700s to the 1900s, the prison covers a fascinating period of time and enables an exploration of the changes to social history and to crime and punishment.  Nowhere else in in Cornwall can your students walk into a restored jail and come face to face with the past and the people who once lived here. 

All of our learning experiences feature themes regarding the prison, the people who were imprisoned, the crimes they committed, the Victorians and the Georgian and the worlds of the 1700 and 1800 hundreds. Our educational team are experts at delivering tours to students studying at a further education level.

Our Educational visits run daily and include a guided tour of the prison, including the immersive Dark Walk, with activities based around your topic. Each class have their own dedicated member of our excellent education team, taking charge of them from the moment you step off the coach right up to the end of your visit.

GOTHIC LITERATURE

Our KS3 tour is designed to deliver curriculum based education that enriches your students’ studies and gives them a greater understanding of the emergence of gothic literature in the Victorian period.  From gothic landscape, buildings and themes, the Victorians embraced the dark and gave us a host of ghouls, monsters and stories that reverberate to this day.

TRAVEL & TOURISM

For students who are studying Travel and Tourism, Bodmin Jail makes for a fascinating case study. Your students will experience our museum through the eyes of a customer on a standard entry visit. Once completed they will then have to chance of a one-to-one Q&A session with members of the Bodmin Jail Team. This will allow your students to gain knowledge of the commercial side of the business from all aspects. This includes revenue stream, visitor numbers and marketing strategies.
