We Must Be Totally Batty!
Before any of the long-awaited development and restoration of Bodmin Jail can begin, we need to ensure the safe relocation of our resident bat population.
The Jail has been home to 9 species of bats for many years, including the Greater, and Lesser Horseshoe, and the tiny Pipistrelle bat; we have a duty of care both legally, and morally, to ensure this population continues to thrive under our care and monitoring.
Working alongside bat experts Bodmin Jail have provided a swanky new abode specifically designed and constructed to be the most attractive, comfortable and safe environment which will enable these fascinating little creatures to thrive.
We’ve even incorporated CCTV cameras that will enable the ‘Bat Team’ to monitor the comings and goings of this winged community day to day. Film footage will at some point in the future be live streamed via our website so you can watch them for yourselves.
The completion of this luxury Bat House is the start of a very exciting new period in the Jail’s history, and you can follow our development and restoration through our Blog, or follow us on Facebook for the latest instalment!

Andy White is an energetic, confident and silly Brummie who combines silly voices and a mad afro to devastating comic effect.
Andy has numerous media appearances, including the BBC New Comedy Awards on BBC Choice, Brand Spanking New on BBC Radio 7 and his winning performance on the Weakest Link comedian’s special!
His appearance on the BBC quiz show featured in his five star (* * * * * Three Weeks) Edinburgh show, ‘It Started With A Quiz’ in 2007. This followed on from his well-received one man show at the 2005 Leicester Comedy Festival: Young, Gifted and Beige.
Andy escaped from a call centre to become a stand up comic who mixes silly voices and faces with observational humour, topical humour and his mixed race background. He can do material that’s clever, cheeky, sick or just silly and his performance can shift from deadpan to loud and physical.
Andy has played to a wide variety of audiences, adults and children, both at home and abroad, in comedy clubs, theatres, universities, radio and TV shows, and at corporate entertainment events. He regularly headlines up and down the UK and has worked with all the major chains and comedy promoters along the way. Overseas, he’s performed in Monte Carlo (Laughing Horse), Berlin (Bleu Montag), Abu Dhabi and Dubai (Laughter House) amongst others.
“The laughs turned to applause many times for Andy”

Highly regarded as one of the best acts to emerge from the south west in recent years, award winning stand-up comedian Luke Honnoraty burst onto the circuit in 2010 as the winner of the ‘South West New Act of the Year’ on his 3rd ever gig.
Luke has gone from strength and is now performing alongside the best names in comedy in some if the UK’s best comedy clubs. Having supported the likes of Matt Richardson and Russell Kane in the past, Plus Supporting Katherine Ryan on the south west tour dates of 2014, in the following year took his first show ‘Small Town Heroes’ to the Edinburgh Fringe.

Loaded Lafters New Act of the year 2013 – Finalist
London Comedy store King Gong 2012 – Winner
South West New Act of the year 2010 – Winner
An infectiously funny, natural born comic who is the perfect addition to any comedy line up.
“Luke is testament to the fact that some people were born to be on stage.”
Rib Tickler Comedy Club, Bournemouth.
“Luke Honnoraty upped the level of entertainment with his self-deprecating and anecdotal humour. Rounds of applause were awarded for his tales of 3am ice-cream feasts and shame over being confused with a bouncy castle salesman at a child’s birthday party. Honnoraty had the audience in the palm of his hand throughout the set.”
“Luke Honnoraty, an extremely endearing and affable young man with boy-next-door Devonshire charm who eases in with some self-deprecating gags about his appearance and proceeds to bring hilarity out of the everyday. He has natural chatty delivery and a particularly subtle call-back about the changing attitude towards Walls Vienetta desserts.”
The Daily Info, Oxford
Following in the footsteps of the West Country’s finest comedy talent, Tom has been growing in the dark depths of the south west where he is a regular MC and headliner for those rooms no-one else can afford to drive to.
Gigging since 2010 to everyone from students to the ladies of the WI this plucky young man has developed a knack of winning over any crowd with his tales of life on the outside and his observations on the minutiae of the everyday. And if that’s not your thing he also does funny accents and pulls silly faces.
“His interaction with the crowd is perfect. An ability to create great mental images… great ad-libbed jokes. There is a strong future for this fresh-faced comic.”
Ed Fringe Review
“Absolutely brilliant compere”
“Going to be a comedy monster. Reminds me of Russell Howard and Jon Richardson when they were climbing the ladder, with his own style.”
Matt Price, Comedian
